TULSA, OK -- The excitement of election night didn't end when the polls closed for one city council candidate. Maria Barnes chased a man who ran off from her watch party with her purse!

Supporter Steve Gallo eventually ran him down - five blocks later. He was wearing a suit and tie, but the McLain teacher was confident he'd catch his man.

"I just kinda reverted back to my Marine Corps status,” said Steve Gallo. “I didn't think about it, it was just kind of a reaction. And I was just like boom, ‘I've gotta get after this. It's my friends. It's my friend's purse.  I'm not letting this go unchecked.’"

Gallo's running days aren't over. His next race is for the state legislature.

The thief was arrested and thrown in for petite larceny and public intoxication.
