TULSA---The students in Mrs. Busby's class at McKinley Elementary School have spent the last six weeks learning about NASCAR. They had lessons in the math, science and geography as it relates to the race cars and tracks around the U.S.

Today they learned in depth about what it takes to convert gasoline into motion as guest speaker Lonnie Vaughan explained the inner workings of the internal combustion engine.

'There's never too early of a time to introduce them to vehicles,' said Vaughn, 'they play such an important role in all our lives.'

'We've been looking in the newspaper and it's about NASCAR,' said student Heaven Critser, who credits her dad with her love of all things automotive, 'I've always had a real passion for working on things, when I was little I would always carry around a purse with tools in it!'

The children were able to examine a few customized trucks brought in for display. And with a curriculum specifically designed for the students NASCAR studies, it was the next-best thing to having a real NASCAR car and driver show up at the school.
