Man Surrenders In Tulsa's 59th Homicide

TULSA, OK -- The suspect in the latest Tulsa homicide called in the shooting to the Tulsa Police at about 6 a.m. Sunday. Tyrone Michael Fails, 23, was booked on a complaint of first degree murder.

Fails told Tulsa Police that he had spent the evening with the victim, a neighbor in the Tulsa Polo Club Apartment complex, 12817 E. 40th Street.

"The victim and suspect had been in an argument earlier in the morning," Detective C.K. Hill said in the arrest report.

"Suspect stated that the victim was 'banging' on his front door whereupon the suspect unlock and opened the door and shot the victim with a semi-automatic handgun."

The victim, 28-year-old Hassan Fareed Smith, was found dead on the front porch.

Fails waited for police officers and then was taken into custody.
