TULSA, Okla. -- Oklahoma's trial against the Arkansas poultry industry continues to be marred by delays and squabbling attorneys.

Things boiled over again Monday morning, when poultry company attorneys objected to an expert witness Oklahoma wanted to put on the stand.

The objection caught U.S. District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell by surprise, because he was out of state late Friday when the motion was lodged with the court.

Frizzell, as if assessing the trial so far, said, "this is absurd," and added that any lawsuit could be boiled down to a handful of key documents.

Instead, Frizzell has been bombarded with thousands of legal briefs, which he complained about last week.

Oklahoma's lawsuit accuses 11 poultry companies of polluting a sensitive watershed with tons of bird manure; the companies deny any wrongdoing.
