Tulsa Bakeries Gear Up For National Pie Day

TULSA, OK -- Saturday, January 23rd is National Pie Day and bakeries across the country are encouraging you to forget your diet and splurge with a piece of pie.

"We always like to celebrate the whole week," said Christian Merritt of Merritt's Bakery. "You don't want to just have pie for one day."

Merritt's Bakery has an entire display devoted to their pies with something for everyone -- from the classics like apple pie, cherry pie and pecan pie, to newer creations like their Margarita pie.

Some fun facts about pie include:

• Apple pie is the favorite flavor of one in four Americans, followed by pumpkin, chocolate, lemon meringue and cherry.
• The average American eats 6 slices of pie a year.
• 1 in 5 Americans have eaten an entire pie by themselves.
