OKLAHOMA CITY -- A high speed chase in the metro last week landed a woman behind bars and her four-legged passenger in the pound. NEWS 9 aired the story on Thursday, and calls to the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter shot up.

At least 25 people called to adopt the dog, but one call both the shelter and NEWS 9 received was special. It was from Oklahoma City resident Megan Thompson.

"I hardly ever watch the news, but I was watching The Mentalist when I saw a preview about a dog in a high speed chase. It sounded interesting so I decided to watch. When I was watching the high speed chase and saw the dog jump out, I was like that's my dog," Thompson said.

Thompson brought a picture of her daughter with the dog to the animal shelter where workers made the match.

"It sure looked like the same dog we picked up in the incident," said Oklahoma City Animal Shelter employee Rodney Pesch.

Any doubts were erased when the reunion took place.

"That dog knows it's owner," Pesch said.

Thompson said her dog Half-Pint went missing on December 14, 2009. She searched Craigslist and even searched the shelter a few times before losing hope.

"I started shaking and crying when I saw him on NEWS 9. The little beard he has and that white pointed tail. I knew it was Half-Pint. No dog looks like Half-Pint. That's Half-Pint," Thompson said.

Thompson said her kids, especially her daughter Taylor, were thrilled they finally got their dog back.

Although animal welfare workers thought Half-Pint was a Brussels Griffon Terrier mix, Thompson said her dog is actually a mix between a Shih-Tzu and a Chihuahua.

Lieutenant Mark Reynolds who was at the scene of the chase and helped console the scared dog watched Half-Pint reunite with Thompson.

"I love animals. They just hold a special place in my heart, and I'm just glad they were able to be reunited," Reynolds said.
