TULSA, OK -- An alert citizen and two K9 officers helped Tulsa Police put the bite on suspected car thieves early Sunday morning. The canines tracked two men who fled on foot from two Hondas taken from an East Tulsa apartment complex.

"At about 6:10 a.m., a tenant at an apartment complex at 31st and 129th looked out their window and saw someone breaking in and stealing a black Honda," Tulsa Police Sergeant Eric Nelson told The News On 6.

Officers coming on scene saw two Hondas leaving the complex southbound on 129th. One officer stopped the first vehicle at 41st and 129th Streets, and the suspect abandoned the car to run into a nearby apartment complex.

"We had a K9 right there, and we were able to track that suspect and apprehend that suspect," Nelson said.

Another officer followed the second Honda, and after a short chase, police said the suspect pulled over in the 1800 block of East 63rd in Broken Arrow.

"We got another K9 who tracked the individual to a shed in a backyard," Nelson said.

Officers recovered both vehicles and found their steering columns popped. Nelson said the arrests were a case of being in "exactly the right place at the right time," with two helpful K9 officers available.

The suspects were later identified as Tulsans Dustin Ward, 19, and Kendrick Logan, 22. They were booked into the Tulsa County Jail on complaints of car theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding arrest and resisting arrest.
