OKLAHOMA CITY -- Several large columns of concrete fell from the expanding parking garage at the Devon Tower construction site.

The accident shook downtown and it was all caught on tape next door at the library. Several witnessed the accident and many more heard it.

"Well it sounded like an earthquake. It was a big boom. It sounded like a bomb to me," said David Brewer, who works downtown.

The columns fell into an alley between the parking garage and the downtown library, just feet from two unsuspecting workers and two parked vehicles.

The supervisor on site said the incident was an accident.

"We had a piece of precast that we were loading on the building, hit some columns up on the top and what happened was when knocked them, we had some structure failure," said Vince Burdette with Holder Flintco Construction.

The intensity of the impact left holes in the ground several inches deep. Damage estimates are in the thousands of dollars, and while the pile of pillars is a minor setback for such a major project, a little luck prevented it from being something much more serious.

Nobody was injured in the accident. It may set back the construction of the parking garage by a day at most. The 50-story tower is still scheduled to be complete by 2012.

Hours before Monday's accident, workers actually re-opened portions of the renovated parking garage. Those parking areas will be open Tuesday.
