Couponing 101 - Part One

TULSA, OK -- Most of us are looking for ways to save a few bucks.  The first step may be as simple as clipping coupons but is it really worth it. 

Six in the Morning anchor LeAnne Taylor got a lesson in couponing 101. 

We've all tried it from time to time, couponing. But if you learn to do it right and consistently, it can save you big bucks. 

"I probably save about 80% on my grocery bill which adds up to thousands of dollars a year," said 918 Coupon Queen Sarah Roe. 

Roe is the 918 Coupon Queen and she sat me down for a lesson in couponing.  

"One of the most common mistakes is that they don't know where to find coupons on the products that they actually use. A lot of people start getting the Sunday paper and they're like I don't use this stuff so I don't need it. So one of the things that we usually teach people is that you can go to manufacturer's web sites.  You don't have to just stick to the newspapers to get your coupons," said Sarah Roe. 

With a little patience, the right tools and checking out Sarah's web site, she says even I can learn to save on my next trip to the store.

"So if I found a coupon for a product and I also found the web coupon, combine those together and there's my bottom line. Exactly, and you put that together with a sale and you're just about free," said Sarah Roe. 

So if you're not sure if clipping coupons will help you save, give it a shot and see how these savings can add up. 

"Once you get the handle of it and you understand the concept it actually gets really, really easy after awhile and it becomes almost like a game. As far as I go, I can do this in about 30 minutes a week, it's not a big deal. We do so much of the work for you on the web site that it doesn't take as much time as it looks like it does," Sarah Roe said.
