MUSKOGEE, OK -- An Oklahoma business has an idea to get information to students and parents and save school districts money at the same time.

It's a new, free magazine your kids may have brought home from school. It's called MY Magazine (Mentoring Youth Magazine.)

At Franklin Graphics in Muskogee, they're getting ready to fire up the printers and they're fired up about their latest product.

"We're a small shop, but with really big ideas," said Jermaine Mondaine, MY Magazine Manager.

This idea has big potential. MY Magazine, and another 12,000 copies of the Owasso version, are hot off the presses and will soon be in the hands of students, parents and teachers.

"This is kind of like a mini yearbook if you will," said Mondaine.

50,000 of the free MY Magazines are printed each month, with editions customized for Owasso, Muskogee, Wagoner, Coweta and Union public schools, and then given to students.

Schools supply the photos and information. MY Magazine adds a little color and character.

"There's tons of research out there that shows adding color and graphics to documents gets people's attention," said Mondaine.

The magazine sells ads, the school districts no longer have their own newsletter printing costs, and the kids get a fun magazine they're more likely to read and even keep.

"There's just something about the novelty of being on a magazine, that even though it's local, it still feels like ‘I'm a celebrity,' for a grade school kid, it doesn't get any better than this," said Mondaine.

While they're working to roll out issue after issue, they're also working to add more school districts and hoping MY Magazine will soon become your magazine.

"We're moving with it," said Mondaine.

MY Magazine also has classified ads. If kids sell them, they get a 15 percent commission that will be donated to their school or programs they're involved in, like band or FFA. Plus, they get 5 percent in "MY Bucks" they can use to get prizes ranging from pencil sharpeners to MP3 players.
