OKLAHOMA CITY -- A nearly two week protest in downtown Oklahoma City is over after a compromise was reached Tuesday afternoon between Senator Tom Coburn and members of Invisible Children and Resolve Uganda.

The protesters spent the last 12 days outside Senator Coburn's Oklahoma City office because he was blocking $40 million in aid for Ugandan children and families.

"To us it's worth it to show Senator Coburn the urgency and we're so grateful for him to listen to us and engaging with us. The fact that we're able to keep this not as an angry protest, but as a call for engagement," said Mark Nehrenz with Resolve Uganda.

An agreement was reached to keep the money in the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act, but that it should come from existing funds. The Senate is scheduled to vote on the bill later this week.

Protestors have been holding a round-the-clock vigil since February 26, braving freezing temperatures outside Sen. Coburn's offices in downtown Oklahoma City. They were asking the senator to meet with them and debate the issue, and work toward a compromise that would help end the senseless violence in Africa.
