Oologah, OK -- The members of the board of the Oologah-Talala Soccer Club voted to suspend operations until classes resume at the school on March 22nd.

The board held an emergency meeting Thursday evening as a result of the deaths of two Oologah elementary students due to bacterial meningitis.

The decision to cancel all games and practices for the club for the next 10 days was made on the advice of a local doctor and after consulting with public health officials.

It's not clear if any of the children affected by the meningitis outbreak are involved in the soccer club, but board members decided to suspend games and practices as a precaution.

About 200 kids play on teams affiliated with the recreational club.

The decision also affects teams from other clubs who would have traveled to or hosted teams from Oologah through March 22nd.
