Deputy Saves Young Girl Who Ran into Street

OKLAHOMA CITY -- It was a close call for one Oklahoma girl until an everyday hero stepped in.

A young girl got away from the woman caring for her and started running down Harvey Avenue in Oklahoma City. Just as the girl stepped off the curb and into traffic, Oklahoma County Deputy Jawan Thomas ran across the street and stopped her without a second thought.

"The minute he grabbed her, there were cars going by the other direction. There's no doubt in my mind, had he not got her, we would have witness a fatality accident," said witness Robin Wright.

Thomas said he was just doing his job, but when the events sank in, he said he went home and hugged his kids.

"I was thinking like a father, like a guy with three sisters to get them out of the street. I didn't want to see anyone get hurt," Thomas said.
