Candidates For Governor Tackle Education In Tulsa Debate

TULSA, OK -- Oklahoma's candidates for governor tackled the education crisis at a debate Wednesday afternoon in Tulsa.

"My goal is to hopefully revolutionize our education system, by empowering the local school boards, empowering the teachers, putting the parents back in charge of their kids' education," said Candidate Randy Brogdon, Republican State Senator.

"We must continue to make sure that our teachers are trained and updated, so that they have the best opportunity to know how to reach today's students," said Democratic Candidate Jari Askins, Lt. Governor.

Candidate Drew Edmondson, Republican Attorney General, said: "I think the state needs to be more aggressive with civic clubs, groups like boy scouts and boys and girls clubs with faith-based organizations to reach out to those who dropped out and try to convince them to come back to school."

Congresswoman Mary Fallin, who is vying for the Republican nomination, was campaigning and did not attend Wednesday's forum.
