OKLAHOMA CITY -- As wholesale beef prices continue to gain this week, it could bear good and bad news for Oklahomans.
Grilling season is in full gear and that will translate to higher prices on beef products.
Barbeque business owners say business has been rough. At the Kansas City Blues BBQ Sherri Foster is hustling to feed the lunch crowd, but even with the rush business isn't always bustling.
"Rising prices have really hurt us; we barely made it through," said Foster. "The price of brisket has gone up about 40-50 cents a pound and we use 8-900 pounds a week."
They haven't had to close their doors but they're struggling. The rising prices are forcing them to fight what may be next on the chopping block.
"I changed some of the ways I order and we had to cut a few things around here, had to cut out our cable and make some payroll changes," Foster said.
It's great news for Oklahoma cattle producers who've been dealing with wintry weather conditions this year.
"It's good news and I'm glad to see it and hope some more can keep coming along," Rancher Paul Fruendt said.
Folks at the restaurant don't anticipate raising their prices on their menu and even though there could be a few more cents on those burgers and steaks, experts say to be on the lookout for the specials and you could catch yourself a bargain.
