TULSA, OK -- "Today is a day of reckoning for Brandon Brixey." Those were the words Monday from Tulsa County's District Attorney.

During a court appearance on Monday, Brandon Brixey was sentenced after admitting he raped an eight-year-old girl, after carjacking her family's van in June of 2008.

The young victim wrote a letter to the judge saying, "He took away my happiness and I want him gone forever."

Judge William Kellough gave the little girl her wish. He said certain crimes deserve no second chances and certain actions can't be rehabilitated, and this is one of those cases. He sentenced Brixey to the max of two life sentences in prison terms, to run back to back, plus another 85 years.

The mother of the young victim hugged Tulsa County D.A. Tim Harris for a job well done. There were days in the past 18 months, Barbara wasn't sure her family would survive the ordeal Brixey forced upon them.

She'd been in her van with her children, when Brixey shoved her aside and took off. After Barbara's children survived Brixey's police chase, she learned he had beaten, choked and raped her eight-year-old daughter.

Only after her little girl had to testify about what he did to her, did Brixey stop his trial and plead guilty. The D.A. believes Brixey knew the jury would give him the max, so decided to take his chances with a judge. That didn't help him, neither did an apology he read in court.

Barbara read a letter of her own.

"I wanted the judge to know what an evil monster he was and if he ever got out, he would definitely hurt somebody else, he's not the type of person to be on the streets," said Barbara.

The judge gave Brixey the maximum, so he will someday likely die in prison. Barbara hopes her daughter will now have some peace of mind, knowing Brixey cannot kill her and her family, like he threatened.

Barbara says the past 18 months have been hell, but they are now ready to move on.

"We're going to go celebrate this wonderful thing, then get on with our lives," said Barbara.

Brixey's family and attorney told the judge Brixey had mental problems, wasn't taking his medications that night and was using illegal drugs, which created a perfect storm for his violent behavior and they asked for mercy. The judge disagreed.
