The CARP Tournament Series Has Returned to Lake Hominy

HOMINY--Fishermen from around the world are in Oklahoma for the CARP Tournament Series and have returned to one of their favorite spots, Lake Hominy.

‘Typically pretty hard to catch fish here,' said Tournament Director David Moore, ‘ there's not that many carp in the lake for the size of the lake. And they're pretty good size, they average about sixteen pounds.'

Bogdan Bukur and his partner Miahi Aciu are Romanians that have been carp fishing together for the past six years and as a team they have been leading the competition.

 ‘Try to catch a thousand pounds try to catch the big one, and there is the challenge, said Bukur, ‘ you've got to use the right bait, the right pick-up bait, it's all about the technique.'

With their specialized rods, reels and even a remote controlled bait-boat, Bogdan and Miahi use every trick they know to snag the big ones.

‘First is like the bait that you use to chum-up the place and get the fish there and starting to eat and everything,' said Maihi Aciu, ‘and after that you can use whatever you use on a hook, you can use corn, boilies, there's so many different kinds.'

When the carp strikes the lure, a beep alerts the fishermen, and the fight is on to reel them in

‘A carp which is a very powerful fish it can range from 1-2 pound to up to 40-50 pounds, so you never know what you're going to get so you have to be prepared,' said Maihi.

The team caught the biggest carp in the competition, weighing over 26 pounds.
