OKLAHOMA CITY -- Nearly one week after a large part of the metro was hammered by a hail storm, volunteers are still pounding the pavement to get Oklahomans the help they need.

Shattered windshields and damaged roofs are the marks left behind by the torrential hail storm, and it's the aftermath that brought a boy scout troop to an Oklahoma City neighborhood to hand out flyers that point victims to the right place where they can get help.

"It's kind of humbling being able to help so many of these people. To be able to help them get their lives back in shape again," David Milligan, volunteer who handed out flyers.

Milligan is one of dozens of volunteers hitting the streets to get the word out, so groups like the United Way and other agencies can get a full report on the damages.

"We're out here trying to gather information about the types of damages they've had to their automobiles as well as their homes," said Rachel Klein, United Way of Central Oklahoma.

Because FEMA doesn't cover hail damage, residents can't get federal funding, but that's why the group is working to get a clearer picture of all the damages in hopes of getting potential funding from other sources.

"We aren't real sure yet if we're able to provide resources. That's what this needs assessment is for, so we can determine what kind of resources are needed, how much of it are needed and if we can get those resources here in our community," Klein said.

Storm victims needing assistance can call 211 for more information.
