BROKEN ARROW, OK -- Who would pay five bucks for a package of 24 multicolored, rubber bands in different shapes? It's the latest fad among school age kids.

"They really picked up in May, late April, and May," said Sue Burdock, Kiddlestix Toy Store.

Sue Burdock has been selling toys at her Kiddlestix locations for almost a quarter century. Zanybandz is the hot new thing.

"They glow in the dark, very cool," she said.

The shaped rubber-band bracelets are made in China, then marketed and sold by a Broken Arrow company. They are sold in packs of 24. Each pack has a theme.

"You can tell I'm too old for this 'cause I have to put on my glasses."

Sue says this craze has moved through Tulsa in waves.

"When they come in, they'll have them on their arms like this many," she said.

If you want to see that you have to find some kids.

Rick Wells, The News On 6: "Zoe are you the expert on Zanybandz in 3rd grade?"

Zoe, student: "Yeah, I have 270."

Macey, Miriam, Zoe, and Morgan said they've been trading all day. And then, as if struck by lightning, there they go again.

Whatever happened to webkinz?

"That was so last year, so last year," they said.

And it's not just girls. Scout Huggins has some too but no ducks and alligators...

Rick Wells, The News On 6: "What is this one?"

Scout Huggins, student: "A battle ax. And daggers."

He has animals too, like wolves and coyotes.

NewsOn6.com talked with Zanybands company owner Lori Montag. Watch the interview here.
