CATOOSA, OK -- A Broken Arrow teenager is dead after a Catoosa police officer's car struck her Friday morning. She has been identified as 16-year-old Jaimie Lee Slaven.

The officer who was driving the police car that struck Slaven has been identified as Steven Treat, 24, of Catoosa.

The accident happened at about 5:15 a.m. on Pine between Hickory and 193rd East Avenue.

"There are some questions there for our trooper to ask and we just want to get to the bottom of it and find out what was going on and do a complete investigation for all those involved," said Lieutenant George Brown, Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the officer was traveling eastbound on Pine and as he crested a hill saw a couple walking in the middle of the road.  Both pedestrians were dressed in dark clothing.  The officer swerved to miss the couple but hit Slaven.

The male was not injured.

OHP troopers say Slaven was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pine Street has a series of sharp hills and even with a 35mile an hour speed limit visibility is limited.  There are signs warning of dangerous intersections and a flashing caution light near the accident scene. Lieutenant Brown says it's against the law for pedestrians to be in the road.

"The law clearly states that anyone as a pedestrian on foot, they're not allowed to be in the lanes of traffic, vehicles have the right of way," he said.

Catoosa Police say Treat has been put on administrative leave while the investigation into the accident is underway.

The accident shut down Pine in both directions for about two hours.
