ENID, Oklahoma -- Enid Police said they have arrested 22-year-olds suspect in a case involving a deadly hit-and-run that killed an 18-month-old girl.

Lt. Eric Holtzclaw said Carlianna Nathan of Enid died Wednesday night after being hit by the SUV in north Enid.

Police arrested Alfonso Castellanos, Jr., 22, at his home Thursday evening on a complaint of Leaving the Scene of Fatality Accident. A vehicle matching the description of the car involved in the hit-and-run was also found at Castellano's home.

"While our thoughts are certainly with the Nathan family after this horrific incident, our officers received overwhelming support from the Enid community in calls and tips , this support provided the information necessary to move this case to a fast conclusion. The officers involved in the investigation worked tirelessly to bring this suspect into custody. I applaud the efforts of the Enid citizens and our officer's efforts. We now will look forward to a successful prosecution of this individual," stated Enid Police Chief Brian O'Rourke in a press release Thursday.

The Nathan family was sitting outside their house after playing at a playground across the street around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Carlianna's aunt, Haythan Nathan, went inside to get a drink of water for the kids, and when she came back out, her 18-month-old niece was lying in the street.

"It wasn't even a minute. When I came back out they had already run over her. I went up there and picked her up. And this truck…this white SUV went so fast I couldn't even tell what license plate it was," Haythan Nathan said.

Carlianna Nathan died at an area hospital an hour later.

"Anytime anybody loses somebody that small, the fact that it was a hit-and-run accident, it makes it even worse," said Lt. Holtzclaw. "We do caution parents also as tragic as it is, it's so easy for kids to be out on the street."

Carlianna's aunt said she blames herself and the driver for the death of her beautiful niece.

"I hope they catch that person and punish them. That's all I can say," Haythan Nathan said.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing. Castellanos would not speak with detectives and was booked into the Garfield County Detention Center.
