TULSA, OK -- Union Public Schools is cutting more than 90 jobs as a result of the anticipated $3.5 million budget cut for the 2010-11 school year, the district announced Wednesday.

The school district held a news conference Wednesday morning at the Union Education Center to talk about the job cuts.

As of July 1, at least 53 certified, 34 support positions and five administrative positions will be cut. Some of the school's programs, such as the early learning program Parents As Teachers, will be reduced.

The school district also announced that they will trim field trips, employee travel, professional development opportunities and overtime pay.

School officials say the situation is expected to become even worse a year from now when Union Public Schools has to brace for the 2011 expiration of federal stimulus money, which it is now using to pay for another 150 Union employees.
