TULSA, OK -- A former Green Country school superintendent indicted for embezzlement and bribery made his first court appearance Wednesday morning.

Gary Johnson's attorney tried to get the charges thrown out Wednesday morning on the basis that they're "too vague." A Tulsa County judge overruled the motion.

Last month, a grand jury indicted Skiatook's former superintendent for his role in a spending scandal.

Skiatook Public Schools paid mark-ups of up to 500 percent for custodial supplies and security equipment.

Johnson was in charge of purchases for the school district.

Skiatook's school board president also stepped down over the scandal.

Johnson has not entered a plea yet. He's expected to be back in court in August.

Johnson's attorney declined to comment on Wednesday's proceedings.
