TULSA, OK -- After an absence of many years, downtown Tulsa has another Creperie, offering another dining opportunity for people who live and work in the area.

"It would be nice to start our own little Deco District right here on Boston," Rusty Rowe said.

Rusty Rowe is one of downtown Tulsa's new faces. He just opened Mod's, a coffee shop and creperie.

"We don't have a creperie. Its fast business. People can grab it and get back to their offices," he said.

The black and white decor gave him the idea of calling it Mod's, after the European sub culture of the 1960's.

Slowly, downtown Tulsa is hosting lots of new faces in some of its old places. The Mayo has permanent residents, a restaurant and coffee shop. The Atlas Life Building has a new hotel inside with a 24-hour Starbucks. And Elote has opened where Nelson's used to be.

Crepes are centuries old, but new to Tulsa. So where do you learn to make them?

"I watched about 50 YouTube videos on how to make them," Rowe said. "Watched the street vendors in Paris making them and watched how their hands move."

New ideas sometimes catch on slowly but folks are giving it a try.

"I know I'd never had a crepe until today," one customer said. "It's kind of neat to try something different. I love that it's downtown"

The crepes come in both sweet and savory varieties. The most popular so far is the Club Crepe, like a club sandwich in a crepe.

"It's a nice way to kind of ease your way into what a crepe is," Rowe said.

Mod's is located at 507 South Boston. The grand opening is Saturday with all the receipts going to the Arts and Humanities Council.
