WAGONER COUNTY, OK -- A Coweta man was killed after his car was hit by a wrecker truck early Friday evening. Jeffrey Stiles, 31, died of massive injuries at about 5 p.m. at the intersection of 141st Street South at 241st Street in Wagoner County.

Stiles was a deputy with the Wagoner County Sheriff's Department. He was off-duty at the time of the accident.

He leaves behind a wife and two young sons.

Stiles was driving his Ford Mustang westbound on 141st Street when the eastbound wrecker, driven by 25-year-old Dustin Stinson of Tulsa, made a left turn into Stiles' vehicle, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Coweta Firefighters used the jaws of life to free Stiles from his vehicle, but he did not survive the wreck. A passenger in Stiles' car, 31-year-old Greg Jennings of Coweta, was not injured.

The driver of the wrecker was transported to a Wagoner hospital where he was treated and released with arm injuries.

Stiles and his passenger were wearing seat belts; Stinson was not, the trooper's report states.

The cause of the collision is listed as an improper turn.
