McDonald's Underwear Bandit Nabbed
MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- A woman wearing underwear over her face during a drive-thru burglary has been arrested.
According to Midwest City police 51-year-old Sharon Lain, known as the "underwear bandit," was arrested at her home after police received a tip.
Officers said Lain tried to order them off her property, but she was eventually apprehended and taken into custody. She faces illegal trespassing charges because the home has been condemned by code enforcement due to no water service.
Police obtained a search warrant for the home and found clothing used in the drive-thru burglary as well as drugs including methamphetamine and marijuana.
"Fortunately, Ms. Lain's crime spree was very brief—no pun intended," said Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes.
During an interview with Lain, she confessed to the burglary and that she was a former night shift manger with McDonald's but was terminated about a month ago. Lain said she planned to take the money from McDonald's and try to win big at Remington Park to pay the back water bill. Lain said a friend had given her money to pay the bill, but she lost it gambling at a local casino. She also admitted to having a gambling problem.
Lain told investigators she discarded the blond wig, glasses, her shoes and the cash register key in a dumpster in Oklahoma City.
Lain now faces charges of second-degree burglary, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of paraphernalia and illegal trespass.
