Broken Arrow Expressway Reopened After Hole Forms On Highway

TULSA, OK -- All lanes of westbound Broken Arrow Expressway at Pittsburg Avenue were reopened Monday evening following emergency repairs to fix a hole that opened on the state highway.

The hole, about two foot by two foot, developed in the center between Yale and Harvard Monday afternoon.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews blamed the oppressive heat. Transportation officials said when it gets this hot, it's possible for roads to buckle and break.

"So it is a pretty rate instance for this to happen," Mitchell said. "But it is something once these temperatures start hitting above 100, it can be a factor on the roadway."

Traffic was backed up on the Broken Arrow Expressway for miles while ODOT crews made the repairs.
