SHAWNEE, OK -- The remains of an Oklahoma soldier declared missing in action during the Vietnam War will be returned to the state.

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office said the remains of Army Chief Warrant Officer Donald L. Wann have been identified.

Those remains will be returned to his family for burial with full military honors.  A repatriation  ceremony is planned August 14-15 in Hawaii for the Wann family.

On August 18th, Wann's casket will arrive at Tulsa International Airport, where it will be met by a military Honor Guard.  The casket will then be escorted to a funeral home in Muskogee.

Donald Wann's 'Homecoming Party" will be Saturday, August 21st at 10 a.m. at the S.E. Baptist Church at 2511 East Hancock in Muskogee.  Interment will be at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery at noon, immediately following the church service.

The Department of Defense says Wann and 1st Lieutenant Paul G. Magers of Sidney, Nebraska were flying an AH-1 Cobra gunship on June 1, 1971 when the aircraft was hit by ground fire about five miles from the Laos-South Vietnam border.  It crashed and burned.

The gunship was part of a task force extracting an Army Ranger team from a landing zone in South Vietnam's western Quang Tri Province.
