OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board has denied a clemency request for Jeffrey David Matthews.

He's scheduled to be put to death next Tuesday at the Oklahoma state penitentiary in McAlester for the murder of 77-year old Otis Earl Short in McClain County during a robbery in 1994.

Governor Brad Henry granted two stays of execution, while Matthews' attorneys looked over evidence in the case.

His execution will be the second in the state this year. Sixty-year-old Julius Ricardo Young was executed in January after being convicted of murdering his former girlfriend's daughter and grandchild.
