TULSA, OK -- Fifteen Tulsans devoured plate after plate of soft tacos Saturday, including The News On 6's Chris Wright.

They all stuffed their faces for a good cause. All the money raised goes to Pepco, or People empowering people community outreach. The North Tulsa community center closed earlier this year because of budget cuts.

Compadres Mexican Grill stepped up to the plate, hosting the taco eating contest to help them reopen their doors.

"The bottom line is we need local business leaders, like Compadres, to take some initiative and raising some funds and helping us raise some of our financial goals," said Paul Ross, Pepco representative.

Pepco says it needs about $50,000 to get the community center open again.

By the way, the winner ate a dozen soft tacos to take home the trophy and a $250 dollar gift card to Compadres. Chris Wright managed to eat five.
