OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City Zoo issued a code red Monday at noon when a 22-year-old male chimpanzee escaped his enclosure.

Mwami managed to escape his habitat and roam around the deep, dry moat that surrounds it.

Mwami was contained to the moat until zookeepers finally managed to get him back into his habitat two hours later.

During the code red, zoo visitors were escorted into buildings, then taken off zoo grounds.  A zoo spokesperson says the public was never in danger.
