TULSA, OKLAHOMA -- Tulsa Police and firefighters were called early Tuesday morning to help rescue a man who had climbed onto an overhead traffic sign in downtown Tulsa.

Tulsa Police got the call at 2:52 a.m. and say they found an intoxicated man sitting on a sign below the 3rd Street overpass over the Inner Dispersal Loop.

Police shut down the northbound lanes of the east leg of the IDL and began talking with the man to calm him down and keep him from jumping.

Police say the man told them he missed his mother and father.

The Tulsa Fire Department brought in a ladder and police were able to convince him to climb down.

The unidentified man was taken into custody and transported to a Tulsa hospital for observation.
