1 Killed, Another Injured After Crane Accident at Chesapeake

One person was killed and another person was injured after an object fell off a crane on the Chesapeake campus Tuesday night near 63rd Street and Western Avenue, according to Oklahoma City police.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- One person was killed and another person was injured after an object fell off a crane on the Chesapeake campus Tuesday night near 63rd Street and Western Avenue, according to Oklahoma City police.

Oklahoma City Police Lt. Daniel Stewart said the workers were attempting to dismantle a crane at about 8:30 Tuesday evening when something fell from the crane onto the workers.

One employee was taken to the hospital has non-life threatening injuries, according to Lt. Stewart. Their name has not been released.

The Medical Examiner's Office has identified the worked killed in the crane incident as 42-year old Michael Parsons. They are still working to determine an exact cause of death.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be handling the investigation.

Lt. Stewart said the crane belongs to the Rent-a-Crane company. The employees work for Silver Cliff Construction.

In a statement, Chesapeake officials said the crane was being used to replace roofing shingles on buildings that had been damaged during a June hailstorm.
