Tulsa City Council Cancels Closed Door Meetings With Chamber Of Commerce

TULSA, OKLAHOMA -- The Tulsa City Council has canceled planned closed door meetings with the Chamber of Commerce next week, and plans to schedule an open meeting instead.

Concerns had been raised about whether the meetings would violate the spirit of the Open Meetings Act because the councilors were divided into groups to avoid a quorum.

Tulsa City Council Chair Rick Westcott said a new meeting will be scheduled for next week and it will be open to the media.

"Our leadership remains steadfast in finding the means to resolve the issues plaguing our city government," said Mike Neal, president and CEO, Tulsa Metro Chamber.

Neal said he was confident that the canceled meetings were "within all legal boundaries."

"We will work to convene a meeting to ensure a public notification is in a timely manner and posted at the Chamber office," he said.
