GARFIELD COUNTY, Oklahoma -- Accident investigators say an Enid teen was checking her iPod when she crashed a pickup with two passengers riding in the bed at 2 a.m. Sunday in Garfield County. One of the teens riding in the bed of the pickup is in critical condition following the accident.
The crash took place on Holden Road just east of Oakwood Road about six miles north of Enid in Garfield County.
Lindsey M. Goldstrom, 16, was driving eastbound on Holden Road when she looked down to check her iPod, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. When she looked back at the road, she saw something in the roadway and swerved left. The 2002 Chevy pickup went into a broadslide, left the highway to the right and flipped over one time.
Enid residents Tyler A. Wedel and Steven G. Shook, both 16, were riding in the bed of the pickup. Wedel was ejected an unknown distance from the pickup and was not injured. Shook received head, internal and leg injuries in the accident and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
The driver was also transported to a local hospital with head, trunk and arm injuries. She was listed in guarded condition, the trooper reports.
Another passenger riding in the cab of the pickup, 54-year-old Deborah M. Goldstrom of Enid, was treated and released at an Enid hospital.
Lindsey Goldstrom was in normal condition at the time of the wreck. Driver inattention and distraction inside vehicle are listed as the cause.
