TULSA, Oklahoma -- You may be dooming your child to a lifetime of singing in the shower and dancing with two left feet.

That is, if there's no formal or informal musical training before age 9.

And a former elementary school music teacher is promoting a music program for even younger children.

Jenny Kane's holds her Music for Kidz class at the Community Center at LaFortune Park.

"The first years of life are critical for musical development," said Jenny King, music teacher. That philosophy's not new, but this is a new opportunity to put it into practice.

Jenny Kane is a former elementary school music teacher who exposes her students, ages birth through age 4, to the basics of music and rhythm.

She believes, the earlier the better. The program uses a curriculum from The Music Class, which features CDs loaded with kid friendly songs along with a corresponding song book. The idea being parents can use those to reinforce the 45 minute once a week class.

"For the rest of their lives they'll be able to pick up music easily and will enjoy music if they start when they are very young."

For these kids it seems perfect. They are exposed to different instruments like the clarinet and guitar.

This is not just for listening - these classes are interactive.

Free spirits are encouraged. Different rhythms. Different sounds. It's high energy stuff with lots of chances to clap and run around.

The sessions are 10 weeks long and are scheduled at a couple of locations.
