TULSA Oklahoma -- It was a happy homecoming Thursday for an Oklahoma Blackhawk unit.

Will Kavanagh's battalion made it back to Fort Sill. When he's not serving overseas, Will pilots SkyNews6.

His unit spent the last nine months in Iraq flying more than 1,500 combat missions.

They may be back in Oklahoma, but they aren't quite home and the ride from Fort Sill can be the most anxious leg of the journey.

That's why one soldier's fiancée is baking more than 1,000 cookies, giving them a taste of home for that final stretch.

"We're making six different kinds of cookies, that way I can try and please each one of the soldiers," said Amber Riebel.

There will be a welcome home celebration Tuesday for Company B, 2nd Battalion, 285th Aviation when the battalion makes it back.
