OKLAHOMA CITY -- The number of Oklahomans suffering from Depression is among the highest in the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC's report shows one out of every 10 Americans has symptoms of depression, and it's far worse in Oklahoma. Oklahoma ranks in the top 10 states, according to the information contained in the CDC's latest report. Oklahoma is one of seven states in the country with the highest incidents of depression.
Mississippi tops the list. The clustering of depression in the southeast may be partly due to chronic health conditions like obesity, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and sleep problems which are also common in the area.
Depression is a very common and treatable disorder. If you or someone you love or know is suffering from depression, you are encouraged to get help.
The National Depression screening day is October 7.
