TULSA, Oklahoma – Sales tax collections for the City of Tulsa for mid-August to mid-September were above last year's totals for the same period, the city said Thursday.

The collections were also above the budget estimate for the month.

City officials said the actual tax received was $17,103,619, up more than five percent collected during the same period in 2009. The anticipated budget estimate for the period was $15,421,000.

Sales taxes received for the year to date total $66,821,867, slightly above the $66,190,064 collected at this time in 2009.

"We are still carefully monitoring our revenue intake and projections. We feel encouraged that we remain on the right track," Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett said in a statement Thursday. "We will continue to plan and operate with conservative estimates as we work to implement cost-saving changes, efficiency recommendations and look for ways to increase revenues."
