TULSA, Oklahoma -- Hillcrest Medical Center and the Tulsa Health Department launched their annual public awareness campaign aimed at flu prevention on Tuesday.

The Don't Bug Me campaign was established in 2004 as a result of a nationwide flu vaccine shortage.

According to a news release, the Don't Bug Me campaign has morphed through the years to address topical flu issues, such as H1N1.

"Hillcrest is proud to again be partnering with the Tulsa Health Department to educate individuals in our community about the steps they can take to arm themselves against the flu," said Steve Landgarten, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Hillcrest HealthCare System. "In addition to keeping Tulsans healthy during flu season, we hope Don't Bug Me will instill lifelong healthy lifestyle habits, especially in our students, that will lead to an overall healthier community."

The campaign will target three main audiences during the campaign – schools, large employers and the general public.
