YUKON, Oklahoma -- The Yukon City Council will be recognizing a Yukon fifth-grader for his good deed and selfless action.

Police said 11-year-old Ethan Tramel was walking to school when he found a blue Arvest Bank bag lying in the road filled with almost $1,000. He flagged down a Yukon police officer and reported the found cash.

"My first thought was what if there was a million dollars in this?" Ethan said.

The Yukon Police Department logged and entered the cash in the property room of the police station and notified Arvest Bank of the found bag. Captain Andrew Johnson requested the bank contact the department if anyone contacted them about the missing money bag.

The owner, Gene Henderson, reported the missing bag and cash to the Yukon Police Department on Sunday and the property was returned to one of Henderson's customers Monday morning.

"Not too many kids would have done that, not many adults for the matter. He's a great kid and he saved me a lot of grief," Henderson said.

Henderson met the 11-year-old and his mom to thank them personally and Ethan's learned, if you do good, good will come. Henderson gave Ethan an undisclosed amount but said he wishes he could've given the fifth grader a bigger reward.

Ethan's mom, Kacie Lynn Maples, said she is very proud of her son for turning the found bag to the police.

"I think he's a role model for not only kids his age but for a lot of adults," Maples said.

The Yukon City Council will recognize Ethan's good deed on Tuesday, October 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Centennial Building, 12 S. 5th Street, during the regularly scheduled city council meeting.
