City Of Tulsa To Save Money With 'Green' Computer System

TULSA, Oklahoma -- The City of Tulsa started a new green computing program that's expected to save money and energy.

The city has more than 2,700 desktop computers and many aren't turned off at night by the people who use them.

The new program will automatically turn them off, saving the city electricity for all those hours when they're not being used.

"That will basically prompt the user each evening at 5:45 to see if they want to turn the machine off, they have the option to leave it on, but otherwise it will shut down the PC and all the associated hardware with it, until the machine is physically turned back on," Brett Fidler said.

The city figures the new program will save $123,800 a year.
