Oklahoma Father, Ex-Con Arrested After Trying to Avenge Son's Death

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma father who drove to Colorado Springs to avenge his son's death was arrested before he could carry out his threat.

Colorado Springs police arrested 43-year-old John P. Winkler of Lawton. Police said he wanted to kill the officers who were transporting his son, a Colorado inmate.

Winkler's son jumped from the backseat of a patrol car and was hit and killed by oncoming traffic.

Winkler is an ex-con with a long rap sheet. He allegedly phoned in threats to the Colorado Springs Police Department, and they were waiting for him.
