OWASSO, Oklahoma – Several Owasso parks were invaded Sunday by the Oklahoma National Guard. Their mission—pick up trash and recyclables.
About 40 soldiers from the Guard's CO J Recruit Sustainment Program were dispatched to Rayola, Friendship and Elm Creek Parks.
The "Guard The Environment" event hopes to demonstrate the National Guard takes environmental issues seriously, according to a release.
Trash collected in Sunday's event was taken to the City of Owasso Recycle Center.
