STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma State University held its homecoming parade over the weekend in downtown Stillwater. The Pistol Pete float is a crowd favorite during the parade, but this year it was removed for not following the rules.

The current and past Pistol Petes ride on the float and according to Stillwater police, were warned several times to not throw candy during the parade. The candy throwing rule was changed this year to keep children from running into the street and potentially being harmed by the large floats.

A former Pistol Pete and Internet blogger wrote about the experience. He titled the blog, "Stillwater Police Hate Pistol Pete."

Stillwater Captain Randy Dickerson said the department does not hate Pistol Pete and is a supporter and organizer of the parade. Dickerson said officers removed the float and its participants for ignoring the rules set in place before the parade began.
