Tulsa Photo Exhibit Tells Tale Of The 'Wicked Witch'

TULSA, Oklahoma -- We all know the witch is dead; the one with the stripped stockings and red shoes.  But just how did she die and who did it?

Well as News On 6 reporter Rick Wells found out, those are questions that'll be answered in a new photo exhibit which opens in Tulsa on Thursday.

Evan Taylor is a photographer and for the past couple of years has photographed the death of a witch.

"Altogether I've killed her off about 40 times," he said.  "She's been under steam rollers, porta potty's, in bathrooms, the trunk of cars, in floral shops."

It all started out in western Oklahoma. Taylor and his wife saw an old house that looked like it had fallen out of the sky, and she had what they call a "cool if" moment.

"Be cool if those witch legs were under that house," Taylor said.

He said the witch just became part of the family. They bought some legs at a mannequin store, stockings from somewhere else and red shoes at a costume shop.

Now, all his photos have become a full blown exhibit. There are buttons, mini photos, regular sized ones, even t-shirts. Taylor said he's got some favorites.

"The porta-potty one is just comical with the toilet paper blowing in the wind," he said.

Taylor is also thinking of a coffee table book someday featuring all his Death of a Witch photos. He's looking for more ideas.

"Give me a "cool if"' idea," he said.

Death of a Witch, the photo exhibit, opens Thursday evening at Dwelling Spaces in downtown Tulsa. There's an opening night party, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to wear a costume.
