Interim Chief Chuck Jordan has applied for the job as an external candidate, because he was last employed by the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.
Bartlett said the City would accept external applications for about a week, then he and the other committee members would schedule interviews and make a decision.
Bartlett said the interviews would start with Jordan and then would move on to the other candidates.
Meanwhile the City Council is discussing whether the application window should be extended to allow more candidates to apply. Councilor Maria Barnes has a resolution asking for the extension on the Council agenda Thursday night.
