GRADY COUNTY, Oklahoma -- An elementary school in Oklahoma was engulfed in flames overnight Sunday. Grady County firefighters were continuing to put out hot spots at a Bradley Elementary School Sunday morning.
The fire started about 1:30 a.m. The school was shut down for restoration. No injuries were reported, and no other structures were affected.
The Bradley Elementary School was built for 1st to 8th grade students in 1940 and has been closed since 1987.
Grady County Fire Chief Perry Wenzel told News 9 a businessman from Blanchard bought the building two years ago and the school was in excellent shape.
"This is a huge loss to a lot of the older people in the community. Many of them went to school here and a lot of memories are now lost, this building was built back in the WPA days," Wenzel said.
Wenzel said the State Fire Marshal has ruled the cause of the blaze as undetermined.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the fire to call the Grady County Sheriff's Office at 405-222-1000.
