TULSA, Oklahoma -- The University of Tulsa faithful are still celebrating the school's historic win over Notre Dame Saturday.

The Golden Hurricane pulled off a stunner in South Bend, defeating the Fighting Irish 28 to 27.

Players returned home to a throng of adoring fans, many whom had not stopped celebrating since TU pulled off its improbable win.

Dozens of fans had waited patiently, some for hours, for this moment Saturday night.

Golden Hurricane players and coaches were back on campus after pulling off the improbable win in South Bend. They say the fan support back home was overwhelming.

"It's awesome. We have great fans, and we'll need all of them next Saturday against Rice. It's going to be a big game," said TU player GJ Kinne.

TU's Football Coach Todd Graham added. "Can't do nothing but help us. Ain't no doubt about it. Wasn't anything negative about that trip, I can tell you that."

TU fans had been in a celebratory mood all day, and well into the night. Many are calling Saturday's win the most important in the program's history.

"We're very proud of the team. We're very proud of everything that happened today. We're proud of everyone being supportive of the school, and it's just an amazing day for TU," said TU fan Dustin Devore.

The victory ended a frustrating streak for the Golden Hurricane faithful. TU had lost the previous 19 games it had played against Bowl Championship Series teams, and to end the streak in historic Notre Dame stadium was something worth celebrating.

"It was awesome. I'll remember that forever, especially winning. It felt a lot better," Kinne said.

On the other hand, Saturday was the end of a tough week for Notre Dame. The campus is still mourning the death of a 20-year-old student who died while filming practice.
