TULSA, Oklahoma -- One person is dead and two others injured after a truck slams into a semi on a congested I-44. The victims were members of a Tulsa church.

It happened at the 129th East Avenue exit shortly before 4:00 p.m. Sunday.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers say a Ford F-150 traveling eastbound rear-ended a semi that had stopped apparently because of traffic congestion.

"From what witnesses said, that the semi and other vehicles stopped for traffic reasons, that the traffic was congested and the black truck apparently did not see that and was unable to stop," said OHP Trooper Shiloh Hall.

The female passenger was pulled out 2 hours later and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was trapped for a short time, but she was transported to a local hospital in fair condition.

A 2-year-old child riding in the rear of the truck was also injured, EMSA says her injuries were non-life threatening.

Members of the First Baptist Church in Tulsa say that driver was Vicki Peters, her passenger was Reta Moore. The two-year-old is Moore's daughter.

They were on their way to a church function in Inola when they ran into construction on I-44 at the 129th street exit.

Crews had to shut down the interstate highway for several hours so workers could separate the truck from the semi and clean up all the debris.

Eastbound traffic was already down to just one lane for road work at 161st street.
